Who’s Hungry?!? Hey fellow food lovers! My name is Doug, and I am Long Island’s Professional Fat Guy! Here on Long Island, there are tons of hobbies you can get involved in. My wife Jessica and I love to go out and try new restaurants. There are so many places to choose from with a vast variety of themes, scenes and authentic cuisines. We are here to tell you about our favorite spot we visit each month.
This month Jess and I decided to try out Flannigans on Hawkins Ave in Ronkonkoma. We entered into the main bar area where people were playing darts, drinking and having a good time. We were seated in the dining room adjacent to the main bar area. There were clovers etched in the glass, Irish sayings on the walls and above each table was a box with tiles displaying peoples family crests. We spoke with Chef/Owner Nick Jiminez who told us that his goal for this is to be a gastro pub. Nick worked in Manhattan for most of his career in some of the finest restaurants training under master chefs. His goal is to bring a taste of Manhattan to Long Island.
For our first course we were given The Irish Dream Roll and Asian Lettuce Wraps. The Irish Dream Roll was a combination of corned beef, cabbage and mashed potatoes in an eggroll wrapper served with the chefs special sauce. The sauce was similar to a tangy barbeque. The Asian Lettuce Wraps were filled with pulled chicken and cabbage with hoisin sauce. They were very crisp and had a nice flavor.
The second course was mussels served in a herb garlic white wine, very tasty. Accompanying the mussels was the Buddha Salad. This had a great mixture of fresh vegetables but the dressing brought it all together.
For the entrees, we had the Herb and Pistachio Crusted Pork Chop and the Rack of Lamb. Both dishes were cooked at perfect temperature and served with mashed potatoes and vegetable. The pistachio crust added a nice crunch and brought out a different flavor in the pork chop.
We were quite full after the meal and passed on dessert but optioned for a well made Irish Coffee.
Until next time, Bon Appetit!
